Ever wonder what the larger UUA world is up to? Want to feel connected to our larger faith tradition? One really fantastic option, open to any member of a UU congregation: attend UUA General Assembly, where you will witness our faith in action. This year the General Assembly will be held June 19-23 in Spokane, Washington (https://www.uua.org/ga). A few years ago, Keith and Carol Orts set up the Keith Orts Scholarship Fund to extend the reach and connectiveness of our UUBerks community to the larger denominational activities. At the time, Dr. Rev. Sandra Fees said of the Orts Fund:
“When I spoke to Keith and Carol about our desire to honor Keith while he was with us, we agreed that a program that promotes Unitarian Universalism and helps to grow our faith was just the thing. Those who knew Keith knew of his great love for this religion. Even the love of his life, Carol, he met at a Unitarian Universalist church.”
The love Keith and Carol had for each other and the faith that brought them together is shared with our congregation through the Orts Fund. This fund provides scholarships to support registration for delegates attending General Assembly. Based on the size of our congregation, we may send 4 delegates each year. If you are thinking about attending GA, please contact our Board President, Art Arleth (firstname.lastname@example.org) as the Board is charged with approving our delegates. And thanks to the marvels of modern technology, you can even attend as a delegate from the comfort of your home!
If you are considering attending any other denominational activities and would like to be considered for scholarship funds unrelated to GA, please contact the Orts Fund through its current chair, Shelley Kauffman (email@example.com).
