Marie Rothenberger Memorial and Celebration

March 21, 2019

Long-time member Marie Rothenberger died on Monday, March 18. A service to mourn and celebrate will be held at UU Berks on Thursday, April 4. Calling hours will be from 3:30-4:30 pm, and a service will follow at 4:30 pm. Rev. Dr. Sandra Fees will officiate. Condolences may be sent to Marie's daughter Donna Sonon and husband Don Rothenberger. Ever wonder what the larger UUA world is up to?  Want to feel connected to our larger faith tradition? One really fantastic option, open to any member of a UU congregation: attend UUA General Assembly, where you will witness our faith in action. This year the General Assembly will be held June 19-23 in Spokane, Washington ( A few years ago, Keith and Carol Orts set up the Keith Orts Scholarship Fund to extend the reach and connectiveness of our UUBerks community to the larger denominational activities. Rev. Fees to take part in discussion panel on the film "Man On Fire" February 27

Rev. Dr. Sandra Fees to serve on post film panel discussion for "Man On Fire" February 27--This documentary film is being presented at the Miller Center for the Arts on February 27th at 6:30 pm, reception 5:45 pm. The film explores the story of Charles Moore, an elderly white preacher, who self-immolated in 2014 to protest the racism of Grand Saline, TX. Also serving on the panel are the filmmaker Joel Fendelman, Michael Kaucher-Reading Berks Conference of Churches and Reverend Dr Bruce N. Alick-President of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention.

NEW DATE! Digital Pastor of the Resistance, John Pavlovitz is coming to Reading

John Pavlovitz, writer, pastor, and activist, is coming to Reading, November 8-10, 2019. Pavlovitz is committed to equality, diversity, and justice, both inside and outside faith communities. Thanks to a DeBenneville grant we’re able to bring him to the area for several events focusing on social justice. Keep an eye on the Univoice for more details.

Letters to Today's Social Justice Partners

Building trust and supporting each other's work to bend the moral arc towards justice is imperative as we work towards an anti-racist anti-oppressive beloved community. Here's what some worshipers shared with community social justice organizations Make the Road and Indivisible Berks when we embarked on the spiritual act of writing postcards at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend service.

Raise in Parking Voucher Cost

We are sad to report that the Reading Parking Authority has raised the cost of our parking vouchers for the 4th and Cherry street garage from $1 to $2.50. Because we do not generally keep coin change on hand, we will now be selling the vouchers 2 for $5. This is still a 30% discount on the cost of the garage parking. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
