The Unitarian Universalist Church of Berks County is seeking an Office Administrator to manage the operation of the church office, including administrative, financial, facilities and communications functions. This diverse and fast-paced position includes managing the membership database, serving as payroll liaison, bookkeeping duties, coordinating grocery scrip and generating the weekly electronic news blast, among other functions.
Do you want to lead a discussion group, offer meditation or yoga, or start a social group? If you are interested in offering a program this Fall, please complete and submit our Course Proposal Form by August 10. Only programs submitted by the August 10 deadline will be included in an adult education flyer and promoted at a sign up fair in mid-to-late August.
The RE program is excited to announce that we have purchased an air conditioner for Kidspace, and thus will be providing All-Summer All-Ages (3 years old through youth) RE this Summer from Sunday, June 22nd through Sunday, August 31st. We have also planned monthly "Outdoor RE" opportunities to help spruce up our own gated courtyard and garden! BUT we need your help to get it all off the ground! Especially in July, when our DRE will not be present, volunteers are needed to fill in gaps where no Helpers or Leaders are currently scheduled.
Elizabeth Bromley has been hired as Music Director and will assume this role beginning August 24. She has been serving as Interim Music Director from March through June 1, 2014. Her enthusiasm, talent and leadership have re-energized our music program. She demonstrates a heartfelt passion for music that inspires others musically and invites members and friends to share their musical gifts. The position is 12 hours per week, and her responsibilities will include directing the choir, organizing pianists, and coordinating special music offerings.
Beginning June 15, worship services will be held in the Gerber Room until renovations are complete. Worship leaders are carefully crafting services that are creative, thematic and take advantage of worshiping in the round. Chairs will be arranged in a circle or semi-circle. During some services, there may be more than one choice, such as meditation in the back of Chalice House and a “traditional” service in the Gerber Room.
Children’s programming is being offered most Sundays, and Nursery care will be provided throughout the summer.
The Chalice Lighter’s grant was awarded, the contracts were signed and this summer we will witness the evolution of a beautiful, bright and inclusive worship space consistent with our congregation’s contemporary Unitarian Universalist worship needs and our conservatorship of an historic Universalist church.
The first fire drill has been postponed due to the to the congregational meeting. Art Arleth, Ebee Bromley and Walter Axsmith are in the process of designing a series of drills for the 2016-2017 year. Please check back in the univoice for more information to come in the weeks ahead.
